Hello, my name is Sophia Peris, I am 12 years old and I am a seventh grader at John Jay Middle School in NY. In October 2012, Hurricane Sandy caused significant damage and destruction right in New York's backyard, particulary in coastal areas such as Breezy Point. I have been very involved in helping the victims of Hurricane Sandy. I have had a food and supply drive the week after the storm. In addition, I have also been to Breezy Point with IsraAid twice to help rebuild the homes that were damaged in the storm. IsraAid is an organisation that responds to world crises.

For my Bat Mitzvah project, I am having a swim-a-thon to benefit Hurricane Sandy victims. As part of the swim-a-thon, I will aim to swim as many laps as I can in 1 session. My goal is to swim at least 100 laps, but it will probably be more.
